Abour our area

The Sierra Foothills, also known as "Gold Country" is a rolling region of California history. At elevations of 1000-4000 feet, we are typically below the snow but above the heat of the Central Valley.  Great for all kinds of agriculture the region is rich in wineries and fruit farms of every kind.  Temperatures are in the 60s-90s year round with 10 months of clear weather.

Gold Rush Towns

We are nearest to the towns of Placerville, Jackson, Sutter Creek, Fiddletown - all historic downtowns loaded with antique and junk shops, bookstores, cafes, galleries, bars and restaurants.

Rivers and Lakes

We are surrounded by snaking river valleys and recreational lakes and reservoirs. Many of these include swimming holes with clear, cold water or quiet idylls for sketching or meditation.

Hiking and Exploring

The El Dorado Forest is in our backyard with many hikes and nearby walks. Within an hour's drive are the Sierra Nevada proper for grander adventures like hiking into the Desolation Wilderness or cross-country skiing.

Connecting with Community

We have friends throughout the region who may be interested in your projects. Opportunities for readings at local bookstores, performances at wineries or cafes, or showings at galleries are all possible if those are your interests.

Additional Information

A typical day around here begins with a beautiful sunrise and soaking in the direct sunlight on the couches and patio areas overlooking the view. We practice yoga and meditation and happy to share that practice with you or offer instruction as needed.  Of course, coffee and healthful smoothies are next up for us, sometimes followed by breakfast, but often we go strait into our work modes on artwork, music or taking care of the ranch.

Your day will be whatever you would like it to be. For writers, we keep a quiet household environment. Visual artists may use any of the available outdoor spaces to create works. We have most tools for building, carpentry, etc.
